Custom Marine Boat Cushions by Tasman Canvas

These Might Be Our Best Marine Squabs Yet

We’ll be honest, this set turned out even better than we imagined, and we don’t say that lightly.

Made with a stunning James Dunlop fabric, these squabs look even better in real life than they do in photos, and that’s saying something. The blue weave has a texture and depth that just doesn’t come through on a screen, which is exactly why we always tell people to come in and feel the fabric for themselves before deciding. This is the kind of finish we build every set to, sharp lines, a fabric that holds its own, and cushions that make the whole boat feel finished.

What goes into a set of marine squabs

Every squab we build starts with a pattern cut specifically for the boat it’s going on, not a generic size squeezed to fit. You can see that process in the workshop shots below, panels cut, pinned, and matched before a single stitch goes in. It’s slow work, but it’s the difference between cushions that sit properly on your deck and ones that shift, gap, or wear unevenly within a season.

Why James Dunlop fabric

We choose fabrics like James Dunlop because marine upholstery in New Zealand has to earn its keep. Sun, salt, and constant use are hard on soft furnishings, so the fabric needs to hold its colour and structure well beyond a single summer. It’s also, frankly, just a gorgeous fabric to work with.
