Cold Start
Cold Start is a small New Zealand company importing accessories for the 4×4 adventure and outdoor lifestyle market. They approached Tasman Canvas to help create a range of locally made products that would capture an authentic, rugged “Old School NZ” camping aesthetic, something that reflected the freedom, mateship, and wild landscapes at the heart of Kiwi adventure culture.
Their customers are the kind who head deep into the backcountry, up rivers, through bush tracks, and into remote wilderness spots with their dogs, friends, and partners — to light a fire, share a meal, and enjoy the simplicity of outdoor life. To support this lifestyle, Tasman Canvas designed and produced a set of culinary-inspired adventure essentials, including a roll-up spice bag, a knife and cutlery roll, and a clear-top gear organiser. After perfecting the prototypes, we began short-run production batches of 5–10 units at a time, allowing Cold Start to grow their brand steadily and sustainably.
Our partnership continues today, with Tasman Canvas providing ongoing product development and small-scale manufacturing, an area where our flexibility and craftsmanship truly shine. By combining local production with durable, field-tested design, we’ve helped Cold Start carve out a distinct identity in the 4×4 market.
